Overview
ARC Justice’s Goulburn Valley Community Legal Centre supports the rights of rural and regional Victorians experiencing social and economic disadvantage.
Based in Shepparton, the centre provides free legal information, advice and representation to people across northern and north-east Victoria. Areas of legal support include the following.
- Family violence; intervention orders and other related legal issues.
- Family law; prioritising child contact.
- Fines, debt and problems with goods or services.
- Elder abuse and decision-making.
Legal issues are often connected to broader health and social challenges. The service works in partnership with other local organisations to ensure clients receive integrated support.
Legal education, resources and training are also provided to local services and community groups to promote legal understanding, support rights-based action and improve access to help.
Goulburn Valley Community Legal Centre also works to change laws and policies that are unjust, advocating alongside clients and communities to promote social justice, equality and inclusion.
